Introduction.
Based in Buxton with meetings held every other Monday at The Grapevine Café, we provide a supportive environment for people to mix socially, give or gain help and exchange information with each other.
The Grapevine Café and it's facilities are provided for our use (out of normal hours) by Peaks and Dales Advocacy, Buxton.
Please Note: High Peak Autism and Asperger's Support Group is a self-supporting group that have meetings funded by Peaks and Dales Advocacy at The Grapevine. The Grapevine Project do not run, fund or advocate HPAASG and should not be contacted in relation to any dealings with the group.
The group is open to people from all areas - including Glossop, New Mills, Disley, Macclesfield, Stockport and all surrounding areas.
"If you would help me, don't try
to change me to fit your world.
Don't try to confine me to some tiny part of the world that you can change to fit me. Grant me the dignity of meeting me on my own terms - recognise that we are equally alien to each other, and that my ways of being are not merely damaged versions of yours. Question your assumptions. Define your terms.
Work with me to build more bridges between us."
(J. Sinclair: Personal Essay - High Functioning individuals with autism.
E. Schopler, G.Mesibov, 1992).
